Great Britain's armies faced severe challenges against the ferocious Japanese assaults in 1941 and 1942. Brigadier Orde Wingate formed the Chindits, long-range penetration groups composed of British, Indian, and Burmese troops, to raid deep behind Japanese lines and disrupt their supply routes.
