In the critical years of 1941-42, citizens from major Soviet cities like Leningrad and Stalingrad formed these militias, taking up arms alongside the Red Army to defend their homeland from the advancing fascist forces. Despite being poorly trained and equipped, these brave volunteers displayed incredible courage on the front lines.
